I WANT MORE!

As you know from your monthly specimens we send you as part of our Club, we always feature especially nice pieces, and usually at bargain prices! These offered below are no exceptions!

SEVERAL CLUB MEMBERS HAVE INDICATED an interest in obtaining additional pieces of delightful dioptase to give as gifts or the like. We have some very lovely pieces with small green crystals on matrix, about half the size that we sent to Deluxe members for $10 each. The matrix on these averages about ¾" long and ½" wide, and would fit nicely in thumbnail cases. These are lovely, lovely pieces!

We also obtained some jewelry grade dioptase crystal clusters for pendants and the like for $18. These are about the same size as those mentioned above, and are relatively flat with straight edges, so they could be set in silver or gold or used in wire wrapping. And of course, Cheryl could pick out the most beautiful and wrap it in sterling silver or 14K gold-filled wire as an exceptional pendant for an additional $35.

WE RECEIVED ABOUT 1500 PIECES OF FABULOUS OCEAN JASPER FOR OCTOBER! We went through all the pieces, and selected the most wonderful to send to Club members, but there are lots of pretty pieces left! Plus, due to the marvelous variety of colors and patterns, a person could have several pieces and each would have its own unique beauty, as seen in the scan on the right . . . So for those who would like to add more to their collection, we are offering additional pieces to Club members at a very special price of $10 each, 2 for $19, or 4 for $32! Or if you would like a whole flat of about 40 pieces (randomly selected) to use for lapidary work or to give as gifts, we have a few available for $150. As mentioned in the write-up, these are pieces of the highest grade Ocean Jasper, so this is a fantastic offer.

OCEAN JASPER EGGS & SPHERES Want more of this phenomenal new find? We have some eggs and spheres available, Click here Ocean Jasper to see the photos and prices, and remember to take 10% off on each gorgeous piece!

Also, we received two large, awesome celestite geodes at excellent prices, over 7" across with large, clear, clue crystals, #1 for $180; #2 for $200. First, take a look at #1, pictured to the left, with a close-up of the crystals on the right. This baby is about 6" across and 5" high for $180.

CELESTITE GEODE #2 is pictures below, with two view from two angles. The digital camera has trouble capturing the beauty of the color, and doesn't quite know which lovely crystal to focus on, so some areas are a little out of focus. This one measures over 7" across and almost 5' high. Amazing!

SPECIAL OFFER FOR NOVEMBER– EXTRAORDINARY VANADINITE PIECES! We picked up as part of our November vanadinite lot three extraordinary pieces of vanadinite, with larger crystals on larger matrix. These are of a quality rarely seen, and would be at home in the very finest display cases at shows or museums! If you have wanted to add an exceptional vanadinite to your collection, now is a great time to do it, as we not only have exceptional pieces, but we are offering them to Club members at more than 25% off the typical price! And if you wish to pre-order, we can substitute the extra quality vanadinite for your regular Club specimen, so Deluxe members can deduct $22.50 and Junior members $7 from the already low price. We will post pictures on the internet, and those without internet access are welcome to call for copies of the color photos, or call for details. Available as follows:

Vanadinite #1 Matrix: 3" across, 1¾" high. Largest crystal 5/16" across. At least a dozen larger glorious orange-red, simple stubby hexagonal crystals with many smaller ones grouped across a light-colored matrix. Regular price $160, Club member’s price $120 less monthly credit

Vanadinite #2 Matrix: Same size as #1 above. Largest crystals 7/16" across. An amazing cluster of tightly packed larger crystals jutting up from the matrix in a wonderfully beautiful way, presenting their faces for your inspection! Regular price $180, Club member’s price $135 less monthly credit

Vanadinite #3 Matrix: 6" across, 5" top to bottom. Largest crystal: ½" across! Incredible, large (for vanadinite) crystals with extremely sharp faces and brownish-red color on a brown matrix. Must be seen to be believed! Entire piece is seen in photo on right, with close-up of crystals below Regular price $280, Club member’s price $210 less monthly credit

HIMALAYA QUARTZ FROM NEPAL We were delighted to pick up in Denver a small lot of quartz crystals from the Himalaya Mountains in Nepal. These are fascinating in a couple of ways: they are found like the famous Alpine minerals of Europe, by collectors climbing high in the mountains looking for crystal-lined openings in the solid rock, risking life and limb to retrieve these wonderful crystals! And as war drags on in this small country situated between China and India, it is amazing that any mineral specimens come out at all. And, the crystals themselves are unique, different from the quartz we regularly see from Brazil and from Arkansas. They tend to be long, narrow single crystals with steep terminations, some with bent faces! These tendencies are more noticeable on the longer crystals we are offering, up to 3" long and 1½" wide for $40; or shorter ones up to 1¾" long by ½" wide for $12. More pictures on the web page!

CINNABAR FROM CHINA We have long been desirous of featuring this pretty mercury sulfide mineral in the Club, but have not yet found enough pieces. Hopefully we will some day! In the meantime, we have a few pieces to offer, small dark red crystals with sharp edges with calcite crystals on a gray (limestone?) matrix for $24.

GROSSULAR GARNET FROM MEXICO These are really neat pieces– large single garnets over 1¼" across without matrix from Sierra de las Cruces, Coahuila, Mexico. Some are light pink, some are light olive green, all have well-formed faces showing modifications of the dodecahedron crystal form common to garnets. Specify the color you prefer, and we’ll send that color if we can for $10, or take two for $18. Pretty cool!

PYRITE FROM HUANZALA MINE, PERU Intergrown groups of well-formed pyrite crystals with a shiny metallic luster– very nice, for a more common mineral. Groups up to 3" by 2½" for $24, with a couple of especially choice pieces for $32 each. And a couple of smaller pieces for only $18 each. Get ‘em while they last!

DARWIN GLASS FROM TASMANIA These pieces of natural glass, called "impact melts" by scientists, were formed about 770,000 years ago. They come from Mount Darwin Crater, Tasmania, discovered in 1972. These are small (about dime size) green to grey pieces with some translucence, for 75 cents each, or 10 for $5. You’ll enjoy the strange shapes and forms!

CHAROITE FROM RUSSIA We were happy to get some tumble-polished charoite pieces (our April 1998 featured mineral) from a Russian dealer. These are about 1" by ¾" in size, nice hand-held pieces with good color, and would make good worry stones. (Lots to worry about at the present time!) Swirls of pretty purple, white, and black for $5 each or two for $8. Of course, when you order a mineral we’ve previously featured in our Club, we’ll always send the write-up so you can learn all about it.

HERKIMER "DIAMONDS" These are the crystal-clear, doubly terminated crystals from Herkimer County, New York. Conditions must have been near ideal for the formation of these near-perfect quartz crystals with faces so sharp they appear to have been faceted by men! We featured these beauties in June 1997, and got a fabulous deal on some very nice single crystals (no matrix) in two sizes: ¼" long $8 or 2 for $15, or 1" long $17 each or 2 for $30. If you have never seen these before, you will be amazed. And if you have, you will still be amazed!

MARCASITE STALACTITES FROM CHINA Something new, we saw these for the first time last year. As the name suggests, these are stalactitic formations, made up of countless small marcasite crystals in the twisting shapes you expect to see in stalactites, as you can see from the photo. We have small pieces to nearly 2½" long for $10 and longer pieces to 4" for $18. Or if you would like a set like the one in this photo in the packaging just as they came from China, we have some for $40.

ALMANDINE GARNET FROM TYROL, AUSTRIA Another new find, at least for us, these are large reddish brown (to 1" and over) in gray mica schist matrix up to 3" across. The garnets have large, well-defined faces that make for attractive specimens for $20.

BARATOVITE FROM TIEN-SHAN MOUNTAINS, TAJIKISTAN This is the type locality for this rare fluorescent mineral, discovered in 1975. We are actually selling these for an older collector of fluorescent minerals who lives nearby, it is listed next in the Dana’s New Mineralogy, after dioptase. It’s not a particularly attractive mineral, forming as pinkish/white plates with other rare minerals, but it shows a bright sky blue in shortwave UV light. We’ll get out our UV lamp and pick you a nice bright piece about 2" by 2" for $30. (They’re offered on the internet for $40.)

FLUORESCENT FLUORITE FROM CHINA Another exciting recent discovery from China. As we mentioned in the August 2001 inesite write-up, China is virtually exploding with new mineral finds, and they are usually reasonable priced, another big plus. These are ghostly green partial fluorite cubes, grown into one another, that show a violet color under shortwave UV. Many of the cubes are well over 1" on an edge, well-formed, and very attractive under most every kind of light in clusters up to 2" by 2" for $16

NATIVE SHEET COPPER FROM ONTONAGON COUNTY, UPPER MICHIGAN

We featured copper in September 1998, and got a special buy on some pieces almost as large as what we sent Deluxe Club members! These are relatively flat copper pieces up to 4" by 2½" for $15. If you missed out on this month, these are very nice specimens!

We received more zircon, single brown crystals with nice luster from Brazil. These are up to about 5/8" across, single crystals with no matrix for $6 or 2 for $10. And we received more small pieces of gaspeite, small rich green crystals in an earthy limonite matrix from Australia, about 1" by 1" for $4 or 2 for $7.

We also got a nice batch of Labradorite from Madagascar, flat pieces polished on one side, our April 1997 featured mineral, about 2" by 3" squares and rectangles, $9 each or 2 for $16. These show the characteristic iridescence that makes labradorite one of our favorite minerals!

HAVE YOU READ THIS FAR? Good! If you pondering ordering some nice additional minerals from us, it’s nice to know that you really can’t lose on them. First of all, we pay the shipping to you, so if you are disappointed in any pieces you receive, all you have to is wrap them up in the wrapping we sent them to you in, put them back in the box, and mail them back to us– a hassle, we realize, but not too great a hassle. But you’ve come to expect a certain quality from us through our Club, and these additional minerals will be of the same good quality. Some of them are especially good deals! If you’ve wanted to order more, but have held back, we encourage you to give us a try. We promise you won’t be disappointed!

Don't let the turkeys get you down! While we were working on this page, a couple stopped by, evidently to check out our supply of polished Ocean Jasper pieces. The hen was knocking on the window! Does this mean only turkeys will be interested in Ocean Jasper? We don't think so! (And how did they find out about these great deals? Maybe a little bird told them.) Actually, though wild turkeys do live in Cambria, this was the first time they had come anywhere near our home. Pretty neat!

GREAT READING ON THOSE COLD WINTER NIGHTS! We are slowly building up a collection of MINERALOGICAL RECORD BACK ISSUES, the excellent magazine with detailed, in depth articles on mines, collecting localities, and minerals. In doing so, we have amassed duplicates of some issues. So we are offering one set of 21 Mineralogical Record issues, various issues from 1979-1988 with wonderful articles on some of the mines and minerals we have covered, for $95 plus $5 shipping in the U.S. Start your own collection!

As always, U.S. shipping is included, your satisfaction is guaranteed, and anything ordered will be shipped right away with your next mineral specimen. Call us at 1-800-941-5594 to order or click here for a printable order form: Order Form
